Trapped In Darkness
The human body was never meant to endure this kind of
treatment. Jonah wondered whatever did he do to deserve this. Locked in a room
with no light tied to a chair, every so often someone would come in wearing a
mask and feed him. But it seemed those times were few and far between.
He had no idea how long he’d been in here, he only remembered walking home from
work as a bartender at 4 in the morning. He got home and ten steps into his
apartment he felt the blow to the back of his head and then he woke up tied to
the chair in the dark room. The light only ever came on when someone came in to
give him food.
His life as a bartender was typical when you saw all the drunken fools who had
to be carried home after a few too many. Either that or the men that got into
fights over something stupid. To counter the boredom, he set up a blog that was
critical of the government.
Jonah thought that maybe that was the reason he had been kidnapped. But wasn’t
this a democracy and a free country where criticism of the government was
permitted? At least that’s what he thought. Perhaps if he had been a famous
journalist the world would have noticed he has been taken. Was there someone
looking for him or was this where he was going to die?
“What is it you want?” he called out. “What have I done to
deserve what you’re doing to me?”
No answer came only silence. While he had been here a long time, he hadn’t
quite got to the point of giving up hope, but he was fast approaching it.
Another of his blog posts he remembered was critical of an organized crime
group, perhaps it was them who took him. If it wasn’t them then he knew he
wouldn’t be getting out of here alive. But if it was them would they not have
already killed him? So many questions going through his head and no
answers to any of them.
The light came on in the room blinding him and he heard the door open and
close. By the time he was able to open his eyes a masked person was seated
before him. Jonah looked around as best he could but couldn’t see where the
door was. He figured that was intentional should he ever get himself untied.
“Why have you taken me here?” Jonah asked the person.
The other person shrugged their shoulders and didn’t speak. Jonah couldn’t tell
if it was a man or woman before him, whoever it was had the size then it could
be either or. But no bulge in the chest, but that could just mean small
breasts.
“Please I want to go home,” Jonah said before a sandwich was put in
his face and he was forced to take a bite. He would not get any answers to his
questions throughout the whole meal and when it was over the masked person
stood up, took their chair the lights went out and Jonah again was left in darkness.
Were these aliens that had abducted him? Would they not be able to understand
his language, maybe that’s why they didn’t answer. Or maybe they were just
being cruel. All he wanted was to go home and snuggle with his girlfriend
again.
Maybe it was the friends of his previous girlfriend who had abducted him. She
was the jealous type, “Please Janie if it was you, I want to go home.
You’ll find another guy.”
Once again there was no answer only darkness and silence.
