Hello and welcome back. Sorry it’s been awhile since I posted here. Too long actually. Today I will talk about writing ploys and how to avoid them.
For the purposes of this article I will use this definition from www.freedictionary.com which says: An action calculated to frustrate an opponent or gain an advantage indirectly or deviously; a maneuver:
We’ll use the part where it deals with what can frustrate you as the writer.
- The blank screen. We’ve all been there. Staring for a long time at the blank computer screen. Not knowing what to write. There are several ways to avoid this. One way is to plan for five to ten minutes what you want to write about the night before. Other things I’ve used are the email program or the note app on my phone – when an idea hits me while I’m out doing other things I quickly email the idea to another email account I have or type it onto the note app. That way if I’m stuck for what I want to write I check one of those ideas and go with it. There are many other ways like doing a Google search for writing prompts.
- Finding/Making Time. Another problem many aspiring writers have is finding and making the time to write. Well there’s lots of ways to do this. Even when you have a job, and a family and other responsibilities. Things I’ve done to help with this are carry a notebook with me when I’m out at an appointment for the doctor or dentist. What doctor or dentist has ever gotten their appointments in on time? You can also use your lunch hour at work to write, don’t watch as much TV or get up a little earlier in the morning.
- What story do I write? For me this is one that you will enjoy writing. There’s a saying, if it’s not fun it’s not done. The reasoning behind this is when you’re writing fiction you’re creating entertainment. Or in other words you’re making fun. If you aren’t having fun while making fun – what’t the point in writing that story?
I hope those tips help, now go out and make it a great day.
