I got asked a question recently about what I would buy if I got a $100 gift card to Amazon. Specifically what I would buy to help me with my writing. I hope you can forgive the blatantly promotional post, but these are some of the things that have helped me most.

Since one of the best ways to help improve a manuscript is to improve the dialogue there’s two books I would recommend to buy. The first one is from Marcy Kennedy’s Busy Writer’s Guides to Dialogue available here. And How To Write Dazzling Dialogue by James Scott Bell, also available here.

Most of the writing craft books I have read are by those two authors so you can’t go wrong with anything written by either of them.

Of course that only comes to twenty dollars for the two books so make sure you buy everything that they wrote.
