5 Minute Writing Challenge
Hello and welcome back to my blog.
Recently I took part in a 30 day 5 minute writing challenge put on by Britt Malka. It was a lot of fun and it gave me some ideas to use for future stories, possibly even in the series that No Remorse No Regret are a part of.
What the challenge involved was she gave two words as prompts and you took 5 minutes to write a story based on the two words. So I thought I’d share them here with you, each one will be posted over the next 30 days. I hope you enjoy them.
Day 1
Village message
The village elders had received the message from the King’s representative. And it was clear, there would be no help coming. Theirs is an insignificant part of the kingdom. Too far from the main population centers and commerce hubs to be worth the sacrifice in soldiers.
They had figured this would be the response – even though they paid the same taxes as everyone else in the kingdom to keep the soldiers paid and fed. Long ago they had come up with their own defense plan in the event of an invasion.
Their own scout had told them the enemy was only a day away from taking the town.
The defense plan was put in motion. Around the town the moat was covered with a light material that anything heavier than four pounds would fall through to the spikes below.
Out away from the town in various locations trip wires were set up that would cause in some places venomous snakes to be dropped down. Then a little further in trees would fall down into the path and possibly on top of the invaders. Then just before the moat flammable material soaked the ground and flaming arrows would rain down as soon as they got in.
Defense in depth, and if any of the enemy were to actually make into the village they would get an even nastier surprise.
