Town refrigerator

The town of Handsville has or had a central refrigerator where all two hundred of the residents could store their food. It was a huge walk in refrigerator like what you see in the large restaurants. But a lot bigger to serve the needs of 200 hundred people. The food was portioned out according to each family’s needs.

Each family in this town was only permitted two children. And they each had to be one girl and one boy. They all had invitro fertilization to get pregnant.

That old refrigerator served the town well until the sun’s coronal mass ejection fried the electronics of the planet. Every electrical appliance was destroyed.

Now with all the food gone bad after just four days the people of the town had no idea what to do next. They were too small a town for the government’s emergency aid agencies to help. All the aid went to the big cities, much larger populations. And Handsville and other towns like it were left on their own.
