Another Time Management Post
Hello and welcome back to my blog.
Today as the title suggests I am going to write about time management. I’ve written about this before but it bears repeating because today I wasted a lot of time surfing the net when I could, or actually should have been working on writing and marketing tasks.
I’ve gotten into a prepper mindset. Preparing for a disaster. This stuff does happen. In my own hometown of Halifax, Nova Scotia we had Hurricane Juan in 2003 which knocked out power. And then a few months later we had White Juan which was a massive winter storm which virtually shut down the city.
Why it took me so long to get into the prepper mindset I can’t really tell you but at least I’m starting now. But today I spent a couple hours reading articles on prepping.
This is not to say we shouldn’t have fun outside of writing. It’s just I should have scheduled time for writing first. In Dan Kennedy’d book No B.S. Time Management for Entrepreneurs he mentions how he always starts off the first hour of the day working on a writing project.
Now there’s a novel (forgive the pun) idea. Well not so much, it should be common sense. If you want to be a writer, then #$$%% write. And start every day writing.
I got out of the habit recently of working on writing projects like the 2 sentence stories and 500 word stories while on breaks at work and instead spent the time reading prepper articles.
So starting today or I should say tomorrow what I will do is on day’s off from work spend the first hour of the day writing. Then on a break maybe read an article but also do some sort of fitness exercise. And on breaks at work, work on those writing projects.
It’s good to prepare for a disaster because let’s face the fact, they do happen and you can’t always depend on the government to do what’s necessary to help you. While FEMA is a US organization and not Canadian it has been said that the FEMA acronym is Foolishly Expecting Meaningful Aid. So self sufficiency is always a good goal.
However there is a but here and that but is: Is the end of the world going to happen tomorrow? Not likely.
Now here will be my schedule: where for this month my goal is to get to 38K words written. Which means I need to write a minimum of 1320 words everyday for the rest of the month I will get my writing goals finished for the day and then do the fun stuff like reading prepper articles. Also do my marketing task for the day
It would be a good idea for you, if you’re serious about writing. to do the same. Get your writing goals done for the day and then move onto other stuff. After all writing is still fun, if it wasn’t I wouldn’t do it.
Make it a great day.
