Hello and welcome back. Today I am going to talk about darkening your story.

This is not to say simply having a story take place at night or in a darkened room or building. But to have your story have some foreboding suspense.

One way to do this is to have the character wake up locked in a room not knowing where they are or how they got there. What thoughts will be going through his head? No windows to the outside, am I in a basement or attic or underground?

A second way is your character is hiding somewhere and can hear her pursuers coming towards her. She can hear the barking of the dogs and the crunching of the gravel beneath the men’s feet as they get within ten feet of her hiding spot.

Those are two ways to make your story darker. Hopefully this helps with your own writing.
