How To Begin A Story
Hello and welcome back.
Today I am going to talk about the different ways you can begin a story. A lot of that will depend on what genre you are writing in.
For example, in the story I wrote for 2017’s NaNoWriMo, it is an action thriller type of book called Burned. I have the main character, Ryan Foster, an undercover cop, rushing into a warehouse half dragging half carrying a girl to be dropped off to his support team. Only he finds his support team has been killed and there are gun shots at him seconds upon his arrival. Then there is a car chase scene as he escapes.
That is one way to begin a story. You can also do it with a character who is reminiscing about the past as he or she tells the story. Such as like this, I really loved that girl, she was so sweet, at the time she was the best thing that ever happened to me.
You can also start the story with dialogue, “You can’t do that sort of thing,” Marsha said.
Another way is to establish the setting of your story, there was nothing but open water for miles in every direction.
Those are three ways to begin a story. In later posts I will be coming up with more.
