What To Outsource
Hello and welcome back.
Today I would like to talk about what stuff, as an indie author and publisher you will need to outsource. You can’t do it all yourself. So here we go:
- Editing and Proofreading. This is because you want someone who can look at your book with an objective eye. For a lot of us, our stories are like our babies. A good editor will tell you where the story does or doesn’t flow and if there’s any continuity errors. By continuity I mean if in one part of the book you have a character saying she loved that man for three years, and then later in the book saying she only met him four months ago. This would be a continuity problem, unless the character is trying to hide how long she knew him.
- Cover design. Unless you’re a professional graphic designer you will want to spend some money here. The reality is that we judge a book by its cover. In this day and age of ebooks it is especially important because a thumbnail image on a book seller’s website needs to grab a reader’s attention in seconds.
- If you have the budget for it consider using some paid marketing. For this only use money you can afford to lose. You don’t want to be spending rent/mortgage or your kids’ college funds for this.
These are three things to consider outsourcing, I hope this helps, have a great day.
