A Post On Plagiarism
Hello and welcome back.
Today I am sharing an article called In Defense Of Plagiarism which was posted on The Michigan Daily by Laura Dzubay.
The article doesn’t actually defend plagiarism but tells about how many artists get their inspiration from various sources. One example in the heavy metal music world are two songs by Metallica – Welcome Home Sanitarium and Fade To Black. They used the Iron Maiden song Remember Tomorrow as a blue print for those songs.
The blue print being a soft or low intensity verse, medium to high intensity chorus and high to hyper intense guitar solo.
So in fact this post and the article I am writing about might be better called one way to find inspiration. They key for us writers is to always be reading not just in our own genres but outside of our genres. The reason being is that you might be able to find a trope in a different genre than you usually write in and adapt it to fit your own stories.
In other words NEVER EVER copy someone else’s work and pass it off as your own. Take what has been done before, adapt it and make it something new and unique.
Hope this helps, have a great day.
