How To Increase Your Daily Word Count
Hello and welcome back to my blog.
My post today is about how to increase your daily word count. If you read Stephen King’s book On Writing, and a friend of mine had said she took a seminar from or about him where he says not to shut off your computer until you’ve written 2500 words.
To get to that point can be tough for many. And to be honest I’ve had days where my writing felt like I had constipation where it was a real pain in the ass to get the words out. And I will confess that there were days that I stopped writing because I just wasn’t “feeling it.”
I would suspect any writer who hasn’t had those days are few and far between.
And then there are the days where I my writing felt like I had diarrhea. Where the words just simply flew out of me, on those days I’ve gotten over 5 thousand words written. The days every writer lives for.
But on average you, and I, should strive for what Stephen King suggests – or does he command us to do? Write 2K words or more per day.
So what to do if like a lot of us you haven’t ever gotten to that point on a regular basis? Well Arthur Ashe said it best “Start where you are. Use What You Have. Do What You Can.”
In other words, what is the most written words you’ve ever done on a day? Take that and to increase it by a percentage you believe will push you to achieve more. If you struggle to get to one thousand words in a day try making a goal to get to 1200 words. Increase it until you are able to get to what King suggests as 2500 words a day. And maybe you might be as successful as him.
