Your Character’s Job
Hello and welcome back.
So, what does your character do for a living? This can be central to the story like my main character Melissa in No Remorse No Regret. Along with the police detectives. But with the villain, Colton Harris, he’s a janitor at a university.
Your character, like you, will have a job. Unless you want to have the person unemployed and have the job search as part of the story.
Some ways you can get this is to use jobs you have worked or currently working that you character will do. This will certainly cut down on research time.
If you’re having your character do a job you’re not familiar with you will need to do research. This can be as simple as talking to people about their jobs. For my own example in No Remorse No Regret, I had the benefit of having my past two supervisors at my security job were former RCMP police officers and were able to help me on the way police do things.
One of them is a gun enthusiast and was able to help me on the type of guns a smaller woman like Melissa would use.
There are also many places on social media and other websites that people have that are dedicated to certain topics and jobs that you can have a character work at. Many of them would be happy to help you make your story and characters as accurate as possible.
Hopefully this helps, go out and make it a great day and great story.
