Writing Fight Scenes
Hello and welcome back. Last week I wrote a review of the book How To Write Fight Scenes and how it tells the best ways to write fight scenes.
So today I’m going to write a fight scene. In my opinion, the best way to write a fight scene is to have it move fast. Most fights don’t go in slow motion, look at any boxing match or UFC fight, there’s lots of action.
How you make a scene fast paced is to have at most three lines for each section.
Max takes a wild hay maker swing to the left of Joe’s head. Joe blocks the punch with his arms and counters with a side kick to Max’s stomach.
Mac doubles over grabbing is mid section. Joe’s right fist connects with Max’s face sending him to the floor unconscious.
There’s a short fight scene. Have a lot of white space on your pages when you’re doing fast action scenes like a chase scene or fight scene. This gives the appearance of a fast paced action.
Where you might want a slower scene with little white space would be in a romance scene with kissing and snuggling. At least that’s my opinion on it.
Anyway, I hope this helps. Always remember to have fun with creating your scenes.
